New York, New York (a.k.a. “The Big Apple”)! Home to the largest performing arts center in the United States, The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts! The performing arts include, music, opera, drama, spoken word, circus arts, and dance, where the artist’s own body, face, and presence is the medium.  This week is all about continuing to encourage our children to express themselves through the creative arts, including: creative movement, creative drama, music, and visual art.

Housekeeping:

2)      March 19th is the first day of class at Sugar Space. The Spring Semester class times will start on March 19th. Many of you are bringing a friend to class. Email me your friend’s email address so they can receive a confirmation email and driving directions.

3)      Please, access the Creative Arts Preschool applications on-line at www.thesugarspace.com. We are accepting applications, now!

4)      Summer Camp applications are ready! Please, email me for one! They will be on the website, soon!

New York, New York! This lesson provides a perfect time to introduce young children to the famous New York City, its landmarks (Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, The Brooklyn Bridge, etc), its most popular nickname (The Big Apple), and to continue exploration through the creative arts. Depending on your child’s age level, he/she will get to act out actions to the song “I’m A Great Big Apple,” creatively move his/her body to explore New York (be a tall building, a still statue, a falling apple, a rolling apple, a bridge, etc.), explore the element of time with 16 counts (moving in one direction for 15 counts, stopping on 16, then moving in a different direction for 15 and stopping on 16), explore xylophones/triangles to one of the Tin Pan Alley’s biggest hits, create some apple art, and enjoy a story!

Please, email me with any questions you have about the move to Sugar Space, Summer Camp, Creative Arts Preschool, etc!

See you in class!
